About the Role
You will work within one of Surrey’s specialist teams, including:
- Family Safeguarding Hub
- Assessment Teams
- Family Safeguarding
- Looked After Children
- Care Leavers
Your core focus will be working alongside families, respecting their rights, and supporting them to create meaningful, lasting change—while always ensuring the safety and wellbeing of children.
Key Responsibilities
Safeguarding & Assessment
- Triage referrals and determine thresholds for statutory intervention
- Conduct high-quality assessments of risk, needs, and strengths
- Lead child protection investigations where necessary
Family Support & Intervention
- Develop SMART care plans with families
- Use motivational practice to empower behavioural change
- Work collaboratively with multi-agency partners
Legal & Care Planning
- Initiate Section 20 agreements or legal proceedings when required
- Support placement planning with fostering, adoption, and commissioning teams
- Ensure children are placed in stable, long-term environments
Case Management
- Manage a varied caseload with professional accountability
- Maintain accurate, compliant, and up-to-date records
- Participate in core group and child in need meetings
What We’re Looking For
- Qualified Social Worker (Degree/DipSW or equivalent)
- Registration with Social Work England
- Strong experience in Children’s Safeguarding
- Excellent risk assessment and decision-making skills
- Ability to work independently and within a multi-agency team
- Passion for improving outcomes for children and families
