Consultant Job Title: Consultant in Orthodontics
Specialty: Orthodontics
Division: Surgery
We are currently recruiting for a permanent Consultant appointment in Taunton, offering a flexible arrangement of between 4 to 10 Programmed Activities (PAs) per week, depending on your preferences. The Trust is open to discussions regarding the exact number of sessions to accommodate the ideal work-life balance.
The successful appointee will be provided with an office and secretarial support, which may be shared, to ensure a productive working environment.
The appointee would be expected to observe a degree of flexibility within the proposed job plan to allow for a flexible approach to service needs.
The proposed timetable will be open to negotiation and include new patient clinics, treatment clinics and MDTs. 1-1.5 SPAs/wk are available, depending on the number of weekly sessions worked. Additional responsibilities may attract further SPA allocation.
This is a newly created post that offers the benefits of moving into a well-established department, while enjoying plentiful opportunities for professional development. Working with a team of two other consultants, there are numerous opportunities for mentoring and knowledge sharing.
Serving a catchment population of approximately 500,000 across East and West Somerset, you will be based in the heart of the county town of Taunton.
We expect that you will join the team to provide a full range of orthodontic services, including taking an active role in the various MDTs. We currently hold MDTs for orthognathic and oral surgery patients, and a restorative MDT for the management of hypodontia. The successful candidate for this post will be the lead orthodontist for hypodontia patients and will work closely with the restorative consultant who is the lead for hypodontia. We are also open to hearing how we can complement our Orthodontic service with new skills and specialist interests in line with NHSE and the Commissioning Group’s framework of services.
In addition to joining a Trust with ratings of Good and Outstanding from CQC, and the highest GMC score in the South West for training, you will get to experience life in the West Country, taking advantage of easy access to some of the UK’s most desirable locations. From the beaches of North Devon and Cornwall, to the cosmopolitan centres of Bristol, Bath, and Exeter, Taunton offers you all the perks while still being less than two hours from London. Nestled in the heart of Somerset as the County town, Taunton has a diverse range of shopping and restaurants, and boasts sporting arenas such as the county cricket ground regularly hosting international fixtures, as well as national hotspots for cycling, surfing, and climbing such as Cheddar Gorge. Straddled between areas of outstanding natural beauty and the idyllic rolling hills of Exmoor, there’s plenty to keep you occupied alongside the abundance of music festivals and local traditions.
If you have got family commitments, or are looking to settle down, Somerset offers some of the best schools in the country. Ranging from Public institutions such as Millfield, Queens College, Taunton School, Kings College, Wellington, and Blundell’s, to award winning state schools such as the Richard Huish College which has been ranked in the top 10 of A-level providers nationally for the last eight years, through to secondary schools ranking in the top 5% nationally, such as The Castle school in Taunton. With a great educational offering, and abundance of open country side, we think there is nowhere better. Throw in a cost of living that will see you afford a higher quality of living, including an average house price of £ £343,000 (Taunton Deane), and significantly lower than the national average crime rate, we like to think we are offering you the best of both worlds, professionally, and personally.
